Ingredients

Filling

  • 3 lbs apples preferably granny smith
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp butter

Topping

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and slice your apples.
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and water. Once everything is well-coated, transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Dot the filling with butter for extra richness.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the topping. Cut in the butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg until everything comes together into a thick, doughy texture.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the topping over the apple mixture.
  • Bake the cobbler in a preheated oven at 350°F for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  • Once out of the oven, let the cobbler sit for a few minutes to cool slightly before serving.
