Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter softened
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Set the oven to 325°F (162°C).
  • Cream together the sugar and butter until fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients to form a dough.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls, roll them in sugar (optional), and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 11 minutes or until edges are set and centers are soft. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
